Sensors in daily life

Posted on Wednesday 25 January 2006

Well, my observation is ongoing but here is my list of sensors that I come in contact with on a normal day. Their are in order of their appearance.

snooze button on my alarm clock
Elevator button
MTA card for bus
Card reader at Starbucks
Security gate at Borders
laser CD barcode scanner
checkout barcode reader
RFID reader at checkout
my Roomba
trackpad on my laptop
button on my iPod shuffle

That is the short list. I was very interested in Tom’s discussion today on the connection between his Gap pants and homeland security. Seriously the trails that we leave in our shopping and general movements is kind of scary, if it weren’t for the shear amount of such trails and current technology being hard pressed to track it all.
